Level A
You have taken the beginners course in Lindy Hop and know the basic moves such as swing out and circle and have danced socially a few times. Dancing to a faster tempo can still feel a bit challenging.
Level B
You have danced Lindy Hop actively and taken all Swingum’s intermediate courses or similar (at least three semesters). You feel more comfortable in your dance, even at a slightly faster tempo. You can easily mix different types of figures and footwork and you think about musicality and try to adapt your dance to the music. You are not afraid of challenges with new figures and techniques.
Level C
You have danced Lindy Hop regularly for several years, both locally and at other dance events. At this level, basic figures, such as swing outs, feel effortless even at higher tempos. For this weekend you are looking forward to a real challenge of high course pace and intensive learning. To pass this level you need to be comfortable with auditioning beforehand.
Instructors
Viktor and Wilma Edlund
The Edlund siblings started to dance bugg at age seven (Viktor) and six (Wilma). They witnessed Lindy hop and Boogie Woogie at a small dance camp in Luleå and fell in love with the dance styles instantly. They are largely self-taught and are today part of the Sweden national teams for both Boogie Woogie and Lindy Hop, with impressive merits. They recently won the world championship in Boogie Woogie (2023).
Today they travel around the world and dance together, teach, social dance, perform and compete. They think the social scene is as important as the competitive scene and that both are useful to become an all round good Swing dancer. They say that dancing is an unofficial peace movement that unites and creates joy as nothing else does!
Sara Bökmark and Walter Andersson
Sara and Walter dance together in Stockholm, where both are part of the Swedish Swing Society’s show group Shout and feel it. When they practice together, its usually to higher tempos and the incorporation of airsteps into their Lindy Hop. They have performed at multiple events during the last year, for example Herräng dance camp, Sun City Swing Camp as well as the Christmas show performed at the Playhouse theater in Stockholm with the show group.
Venue – Ersboda Folkets Hus
The event will take place in Ersboda Folkets Hus which is located in the northern part of Umeå with easy access by bus from the city center. We will have the whole house to ourselves for the weekend including the café which will serve a lunch buffé both days! Note that you have to sign up for the lunch buffé before the 26th of January!
There is also a lounge area where we can hang out and relax in between the classes. The actual main hall for the evening party is frequently used for Bugg and Fox dance events with a nice wooden floor! We believe Ersboda Folkets Hus will provide an awesome and cozy camp atmosphere where we truly can hang out and dance together!
Parties
There will be one large social dance on Saturday night and a smaller DJ social dance directly after the classes on Sunday.
The main party on Saturday will begin with a taster and we will then dance to live music performed by the Umeå big band Renhornen! There will also be performances and a small Mix and Match competition for those who want that little bit of extra rush.
